For the past 10 years Japan has been adopting FDR style, New Deal, fiscally liberal, large government, spending programs to try to get the economy going.  It has not worked.  In fact it has destroyed the country.  The good news is that they are finally, apparently, keep your fingers crossed, realizing it and just beginning to take the steps necessary to get back on track.  

They are beginning to consider cutting taxes!  This may be because they have "seen the light" and understand why the policies of the past 10 years didn't work or it may be because they don't have any other alternative left.  But it does finally appear that Japan is at a turning point.  The Japanese government has faked investors out before with announcements of tax cuts that were then not fulfilled so we will wait and see this time.

Futures and commodities:

Nobody is going to sell dollars to buy YEN until Japan is well on its course toward economic revitalization.  Which as we have said here will require a YEN depreciation.
